Nelson Coffin

Nelson Coffin grew up and still lives in Towson with his wife, Seana Kelly Coffin. He attended Immaculate Conception School before graduating from Calvert Hall College High School and the University of Maryland.

Coffin was a freelance sports writer before joining the staff of Patuxent Publishing in 1989, which was later bought by the Baltimore Sun. He was a sportswriter and editor for several of the Sun's suburban weeklies, including the Towson Times, Baltimore Messenger and North County News.

He retired from the Tribune Corporation, which owned the Sun at the time, in 2013 and began freelancing for the Sun, the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland, the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Varsity Sports Network and the Baltimore Banner.

Coffin is the author of “The Turkey Bowl 100. The Storied Rivalry.”
