Oblate Sister of Providence Mercia Delgado, a gifted artist, dies at 93 February 7, 2025By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Feature, Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass was offered Jan. 28 for Sister Mercia Delgado, a member of the Oblate Sisters of Providence for 67 years. She died Jan. 17 at age 93. The youngest of three children, Mercedes Delgado was born in Havana, Cuba, Nov. 21, 1932. She earned degrees in elementary education and fine arts at the University of Havana before joining the Oblate Sisters in 1957. She made her first profession of vows March 9, 1960. Sister Mercia’s ministries included teaching at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore and managing her religious community’s motherhouse host room. She was a gifted artist and created several of the banners the community used for special days.
