Oblate Sister Veronica de Los Santos, who helped promote cause of Mother Lange, dies at 89 June 10, 2024By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass will be offered June 13 in Arbutus for Oblate Sister of Providence Veronica de Los Santos, who died May 17. She was 89 and had been a member of the Oblate Sisters of Providence for 64 years. Sister Veronica was a teaching assistant at Mount Providence Child Development Center in Arbutus and St. Ambrose in Park Heights from 1970 to 1995. She also helped develop the exhibits to promote the sainthood cause of Venerable Mother Mary Lange, her order’s foundress. The former Ofelia Rafaela de Los Santos was born Oct. 5, 1934 in the town of Trujillo, Dominican Republic. In her mid 20s, she sought admission and was accepted into the novitiate of the Oblate Sisters of Providence. She entered the convent in Baltimore Jan. 30, 1960. She made her first vows in 1962 and her final profession in 1967. Early in her mission, she served as “Hospitality Nun of the Motherhouse,” as well as the order’s “refectorian” for 17 years. From 1970 to 1995, she served as a teaching assistant in Baltimore; Philadelphia; and Montgomery, Ala. In 1995, she returned to serve the Mount Providence Center in Arbutus to perform household duties. In 2010, she began her work to help promote the cause of Mother Lange.
