School Sister of Notre Dame Mary Jacquelyn Elly dies at 93 September 20, 2023By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Mary Jacquelyn Elly was offered June 6 at Villa Assumpta in Towson. Sister “Jackie” died at Stella Maris Nursing Center in Lutherville May 27. She was 93. Born in Baltimore and educated at St. Edward School in West Baltimore and the Institute of Notre Dame, Sister Jackie was inspired by the example of the School Sisters of Notre Dame who taught at the Institute of Notre Dame. After completing a bachelor’s degree at was is now Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, she taught at St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis for a year before entering religious life in 1953. In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, she taught at St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, the Institute of Notre Dame, Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson and Calvert Hall College High School in Towson. Elsewhere, she served in Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. She held a master’s degree in secondary education for mathematics from The Catholic University America in Washington, D.C. in 1971.
