Speaker and musician Nick De La Torre to lead pre-Lenten mission in Frederick County February 3, 2026By Katie V. Jones Catholic Review Filed Under: Feature, Lent, Local News, News, Western Vicariate With the theme “Eucharistic Revival,” a two-day pre-Lenten mission at St. John the Evangelist in Frederick will focus on the meaning of the Eucharist and the role it plays in the spiritual life of Catholics as they prepare for Lent. “The Eucharist is the heart of who we are,” said Father John Williamson, pastor of the hosting pastorate of St. John in Frederick and St. Joseph in Buckeystown. “This will help all of our people deepen their faith and get ready for Lent.” The mission is open to all and will be offered Feb. 9 and 10 in Spanish and Feb. 11 and 12 in English. Nick De La Torre, a nationally known musician, speaker, author and host of the podcasts “The Awaken Catholic Show” and “Morning Joy,” will serve as the featured speaker. Torre is also the founder of Awaken Catholic, a business aimed at awakening hearts to truth through beauty through contemporary means including podcasts, apps and media, according to its website. “I was impressed with him. His is a different voice. A good voice,” Father Williamson said. He first heard Torre speak at a presentation about Hallow, a prayer and meditation platform the parish joined. The first night of Torre’s presentation will offer an overview of the Eucharist and its meaning and role in one’s spiritual life. The second night will focus on adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and will feature music. “A lot of people are looking him up and listening to his podcasts,” Father Williamson said. “That’s a good thing. I hope to pack the church.” The mission is free, though a freewill offering will be collected. All ages are welcome. Email Katie V.
