Deacon James Robert DeCapite, a longtime deacon at St. Margaret in Bel Air and a visible figure in the local pro-life movement, died April 7 after a battle with cancer. He was 73.

Redemptorist Father John Barron “Harry” Harrison, a former pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ellicott City and St. Joseph in Odenton who was remembered for his pastoral care of parishioners, died March 31. He was 84. 

Disgraced former cardinal McCarrick dies at 94

The disgraced former cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, removed from the clerical state in 2019 after revelations of credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors and misconduct against adults, has died in Missouri. He was 94.

Margaret ‘Margie’ Meyers remembered for skill at pastoral planning

Margaret “Margie” Meyers, a longtime parishioner of St. Peter parish in Westernport and a force in Catholic faith formation and pastoral planning in Western Maryland, died March 10 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., following a brief illness with a neuromuscular disorder. She was 65.

Sister Gloria Keltz, O.S.F., dies at 95

A funeral Mass was offered Feb. 28 for Franciscan Sister Evelyn Grudza (formerly Sister Philip Marie), a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years. Sister Evelyn, who ministered in the Archdiocese of Baltimore for 64 years, died at Assisi House in Aston, Pa., Feb. 25 at 92. 

Former longtime pastor of Holy Spirit in Joppa dies

Father Joseph C. Simmons, the former longtime pastor of Holy Spirit in Joppa, who led major construction projects and was remembered for his presence to parishioners, died Feb. 25 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He had just turned 89 Feb. 19.

A funeral Mass was offered Feb. 21 for Redemptorist Father Richard Knappik at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Ephrata, Pa. Father Knappik, who ministered as an associate pastor in Annapolis and Baltimore, died Feb. 16, one day short of his 93rd birthday.
