Ursuline Sister of Louisville Sister Dolores (Joseph Ann) Hudson, a native of Cumberland who served her hometown as an educator, died April 2 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. She was 82.

Deacon Albert Chesnavage, a World War II veteran who became one of the first members of the revived permanent diaconate in the 1970s, died March 19 at his home in Dundalk. He was 100.

Those who knew Father Witthauer said the priest was devoted to his parishioners and had a gift for being present for them. “I think Father Paul just wanted to give people the priesthood,” said Father T. Austin Murphy Jr., a former pastor of Our Lady of Hope and St. Luke in Edgemere.

“He ended up mentoring a lot of people,” Father Proffitt said. “He met people where they were. He was one of those deacons who got people past the idea that ‘we have to have a priest for a wedding or a baptism.’ Even in retirement, he continued to faithfully serve the community.”

Father Philip Snouffer, who pioneered the use of information technology at the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s central office in the late 1980s and early 1990s, died Feb. 18 at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson.
