St. Vincent de Paul Parish is still grappling with how to reopen the corner park adjacent to its downtown church since it was forced to close the area Sept. 21.

This month, Mother Mary Lange, a trailblazing Catholic woman of African descent, will be honored yet again as the Archdiocese of Baltimore breaks ground on its first new city school in nearly 60 years.

St. John the Evangelist Church in Frederick opened again for Mass Sept. 25 once the parish got the go-ahead that it was safe to return to the church following problems with falling crown molding.

Bishop Denis J. Madden, urban vicar and auxiliary bishop emeritus of Baltimore, will lead a prayer walk for peace Oct. 16 at St. Veronica, 806 Cherry Hill Rd., Baltimore. 

The Catholic campus ministry at Towson University marked the canonization of St. John Newman with a community celebration.

Nine months into his fight with stage 4 cancer, the 74-year-old priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore can see he is not alone.

The Catholic campus ministry at Towson University will celebrate the canonization with an Oct. 13 community festival outside the grounds of its Newman Center, 7909 York Road, Towson, MD 21204. The festival, which runs from noon to 7 p.m., is free and open to everyone. It will feature music, food, games and more.

“I think you all have more power, and that’s because of the power of prayer,” said Father Boric, speaking Oct. 8 during a special children’s event on the fourth day of the 2019 archdiocesan Rosary Congress.

While volleyball has gotten the most attention, it is one of just four teams from Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville enjoying strong fall seasons.

“I think (my faith) is one of the things I fall back on,” he said. “I’ve spent more of my life being a Catholic than being a doctor.”
