While it began as an independent crowd-funded series, “The Chosen” has now become a global phenomenon as the most watched series in the world.

“The Resurrection of the Christ” is slated to start filming in August at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios. The film’s release is expected in 2026.

Newcomers to the saga who are introduced to it by way of “The Chosen: Last Supper – Part 1” (Fathom), the theatrical release of the first two episodes of the program’s fifth season, will easily recognize its appeal.

The formula is an old, but by no means venerable, one in Hollywood. Give a character with a military background an excuse to put his calm civilian existence on hold temporarily and so unleash his slaying skills on a host of wrong-doers.

The wait is almost over for The Chosen fans. The highly anticipated fifth season of the groundbreaking series — “The Chosen: Last Supper” — premiered at a special red-carpet event in Dallas, ahead of its nationwide theatrical debut on March 28.

With its title pared down to just “Snow White,” the current release has been at the center of numerous cultural and political controversies and has been decried by — inter alia — conservatives, supporters of Palestine and actors with dwarfism aggrieved that their on-screen counterparts are CGI creations, not real-life little people.

Viewers of “The Last Supper” (Pinnacle Peak), director and co-writer Mauro Borrelli’s dramatization of events surrounding the Passion, may be able to tell that he has a strong visual background. A veteran art designer who has collaborated with such high-profile figures as Tim Burton, Borrelli gives us some warm and vivid imagery.

Currently streaming on Netflix is a new adaptation of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s classic novel “The Leopard.”
