Sister Maria Voorneveld, I.H.M., died March 27 at 95. She taught at St. Bernadine Elementary School in Baltimore (1948-55) and was a member of the support staff at Mother Seton Academy in Baltimore (1995-2006).

Sister Elizabeth Doyle, former principal and teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Towson and teacher at St. Anthony in Baltimore, died April 3. She was 98.

Father Muller ministered as a chaplain in the Archdiocese of Baltimore at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1970 to his retirement in 1989. 

Father Kennard Muller, the founding pastor of Prince of Peace in Edgewood, died at 84. He spent his final years in residence at St. Ignatius in Hickory, where he was known for being a confessor and for dining out with members of the community.

A funeral Mass was offered March 10 for Sister of Mercy Mary Madonna Gies at the Villa in Timonium. A Baltimore native who spent most of her ministry teaching in area schools, she died March 7 at age 89 after 72 years as a Sister of Mercy.

It’s not possible to overstate Christopher J. Kauffman’s contributions to U.S. Catholic studies, according to Tricia Pyne, archivist for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Jesuit Father Francis G. McManamin, who taught history at Loyola University Maryland but was more visible serving as a chaplain to the Greyhounds’ athletic teams, died Feb. 24.

A funeral Mass was offered for Sister of St. Francis Angela Erhard Feb. 15  at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. She died Feb. 9 at 92 after 74 years as a professed religious, including 42 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

A funeral Mass was offered for Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary M. St. Francis Lyons Feb. 12 at the IHM Center Chapel in Scranton, Pa. Sister St. Francis, who taught at two Baltimore Catholic schools in the 1950s and 1960s, died Feb. 6 at 80.
