Alumni and others connected to Calvert Hall College High School in Towson and to the De La Salle Christian Brothers mourned the April 12 death in Philadelphia of Chistian Brother Kevin Stanton at the age of 86, just three days shy of his 87th birthday.

Teresa Ellen “Terry” Brashears, an Annapolis resident who found a second career in fundraising for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, died April 19 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Frederick County.

Pope Francis, who died April 21 at the age of 88 gave new energy to millions of Catholics — and caused concern for some — as he transformed the image of the papacy into a pastoral ministry based on personal encounters and strong convictions about mission, poverty, immigration and dialogue.

A funeral Mass will be offered April 24 in Hamburg, N.Y., for Conventual Franciscan Father Francis (Frank) J. Lombardo, who taught English for five years at Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore. Father Lombardo, a priest  of the Our Lady of the Angels Province, died April 8. He was 90.

Deacon James Robert DeCapite, a longtime deacon at St. Margaret in Bel Air and a visible figure in the local pro-life movement, died April 7 after a battle with cancer. He was 73.

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Norma Loraditch was offered March 26 at Villa Assumpta in Baltimore. Sister Norma died Feb. 26. She was 92.

Redemptorist Father John Barron “Harry” Harrison, a former pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ellicott City and St. Joseph in Odenton who was remembered for his pastoral care of parishioners, died March 31. He was 84. 

The disgraced former cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, removed from the clerical state in 2019 after revelations of credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors and misconduct against adults, has died in Missouri. He was 94.

Conventual Franciscan Father Richard Florek, the first Franciscan to lead St. Clement Mary Hofbauer parish, died March 22 at age 80.

Margaret “Margie” Meyers, a longtime parishioner of St. Peter parish in Westernport and a force in Catholic faith formation and pastoral planning in Western Maryland, died March 10 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., following a brief illness with a neuromuscular disorder. She was 65.
