Students bid fond farewell to Hagerstown school

The Archdiocese of Baltimore announced in September that St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown would be closing. An independent committee organized by school supporters investigated keeping the school open as an independent Catholic school, but it concluded in November that it was not feasible, and the decision was made to close.

In addressing more than 200 people at the St. Dymphna Mental Wellness Retreat at the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg May 15, Deacon Ed Shoener pointed out that St. Elizabeth Ann Seton faced her own challenges dealing with the inevitable stresses of life.
