Charity in Truth

Scatter the darkness

November 7, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

As the days grow darker, both cosmically and metaphorically, the encouragement of the Holy Spirit shines forth with renewed clarity.

When life is turbulent, pray

October 3, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

Turbulence is an unwelcome experience, but it also serves a purpose. It reminds us that we really are flying 35,000 feet above the earth, and that’s not without risk.

Communicate with integrity

September 1, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

Winning an argument or venting on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook are not good reasons to muckrake, to search out and publicize the faults of people one disagrees with.

No more half-measures

June 4, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

Half-measures. Let’s be done with them, especially in this season when we continue to celebrate the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon his church.

Mary, Mother of the Church

May 3, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

Invaluable to the Christian life is a warm and loving devotion to Mary, the Mother of God.

The resurrection of mercy

April 3, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary, Lent

There is no doubt that the Lord has won the victory over sin and death by his cross and resurrection. The question confronting each of us is whether or not we will participate in his victory.

The long Lent

March 6, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary, Lent

May this long Lent lead to an Easter of renewed hope and joy for ourselves, for the church, and for those who have been harmed.

A month of purification

January 31, 2019
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary, From the Archbishop

May februum, the month of February, be the beginning of that deep purification that will renew and beautify the temple of the church.

Reason to celebrate

December 23, 2018
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

We have every reason to celebrate both the immeasurable and measurable impact of our faith over this past year through the many and varied ministries of our Church, including the outreach and support provided to nearly 12,000 immigrant families and individuals at the Esperanza Center; the more than 230,000 meals served by Our Daily Bread; the education of more than 30,000 young people in our 70 primary and secondary schools; the nearly 400 people placed in permanent housing; and the assistance and care provided to 1,800 seniors in 24 sponsored senior centers.

Time and presence

December 5, 2018
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

Pope Francis often tells us to accompany one another on the bumpy road of life. He means that we need to focus, not on ourselves, but on the other. This is what the gift of presence means.

What I heard this summer

September 27, 2018
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary

I will report back to you what I’ve heard and how these heartfelt comments, no matter how hard they are to hear at times, will help to shape necessary reforms in our local Church and how they will inform my own contributions to the urgent conversations that are happening at higher levels of our Church.

September 5, 2018
By Archbishop William E. Lori
Filed Under: Charity in Truth, Commentary
