A funeral Mass for Daughter of Charity Sister Alice Marie (Frances Elizabeth) Smith was offered. Nov.  26 at the Basilica of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg. Sister Alice Marie died Nov. 22 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg. She was 91. 

Born in Baltimore, Sister Alice Marie was a member of St. Martin Parish in Baltimore. She graduated from St. Martin High School in 1949 and entered the Daughters of Charity that same year. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history in 1967 from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg.

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Alice Marie taught at St. John School in Baltimore (1951-1955 and 1957-58) and Seton High School in Baltimore (1972-1977). She served at St. Joseph Provincial House in Emmitsburg (1979-80) and was a guidance counselor at St. Joseph High School in Emmitsburg (1980-1981).

From 1983 to 1984, she was a docent at the Basilica of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and from 1984 to 1985 worked as registrar at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore

Sister Alice Marie served in parish ministry and evangelization at St. Martin in Baltimore (1989-1990) and returned to work in the Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton as the gift shop manager (1990-1994). She was a patient advocate at St. Agnes Hospital (2001-2008), and was missioned to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, where she served in prayer ministry from 2008 until her death.  

Elsewhere, Sister Alice Marie served in the Archdiocese of Washington, New York, West Virginia, Ohio and Virginia.
