Peruvian priest in Baltimore crossed paths with Pope Leo

Father Dal Bianco grew up in Llamellin and was ordained three years ago for the Diocese of Huarí. Now associate pastor of Our Lady of Fatima in Baltimore, he recalls brief encounters with then-Bishop Robert Prevost, the missionary from Chicago who led the Diocese of Chiclayo from 2015 to 2023, before becoming head of the Dicastery for Bishops in Rome.

The judge overseeing the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization case issued an order May 2 that will allow those who filed claims in the case to also file lawsuits against the archdiocese and affiliated entities in order to preserve their rights under an amendment this year to the Maryland Child Victims Act.

Across the Archdiocese of Baltimore, a renewed call to missionary discipleship is taking root. It is most recently outlined in “A Light Brightly Visible 3.0,” a pastoral letter released Ash Wednesday by Archbishop William E. Lori, and was the foundation of the archdiocese’s Seek the City to Come pastoral planning initiative that merged 61 Baltimore-area parishes into 30 worship sites.
