French Prime Minister François Bayrou wants to split an “end of life” bill to separate the issue of “active assistance in dying” from that of palliative care — a proposal seen as a smart attempt to give a pro-life approach to the legislation without antagonizing rival political sides.

In a move welcomed by the U.S. bishops’ chair on family life, President Donald Trump Jan. 28 signed an executive order stating his administration would seek to prohibit certain types of medical or surgical gender reassignment procedures for minors who identify as transgender.

Within the first week of President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, he used executive authority to block taxpayer funds from paying for elective abortion procedures both in the U.S. and abroad and delivered a virtual message to the March for Life rally on Jan. 24, while Vice President JD Vance addressed marchers in person.

Pro-life activists examined their cause as a global one and heard a keynote address about “clarifying” their position at the 26th annual Cardinal O’Connor Conference on Life on Jan. 25.

Care for life in all its stages “should be seen as an unfolding and a building upon the defense of life in the womb,” said the homilist at the Washington Archdiocese’s 2025 Youth Mass for Life Jan. 24 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.
