Church leaders in embattled Ukraine have warned that foreign missionaries could be targeted by attacking forces, while many could be branded “NATO spies” if Russia occupies the country.

Christiana Gorchynsky Trapani, owner of Door County Candle Co. in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, came up with the idea of making and selling what is called the Ukraine Candle for Ukrainian relief efforts.

Various Catholic agencies are collecting donations to aid with the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, as people flee to escape Russian bombing and shelling.

As half a million Ukrainians crossed the borders into neighboring countries to flee the war, the European Ukrainian diaspora and ordinary citizens turned out to welcome and help transport, feed and house them.
