Sister Celeste Donohue, who served as an educator and local superior of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, died Oct. 16 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg. She was 92, and had spent 74 years with the order.

Sister Mary Elko, who gave 49 of the 73 years she spent as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul to missions in Bolivia and nine years to a hospital in Baltimore, died Sept. 22 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg. She was 92.

Sister Catherine Georgine Porter spent 81 years as a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia.

Sister Evelina served as an educator in four states.

School Sister of Notre Dame Mary Valeria Wagner is fondly remembered at St. Pius X School in Rodgers Forge, where, from 1973 to 2014, she taught kindergarten, first grade and later ministered as a volunteer.

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Madeleine Chaffers was offered Aug. 28 at Villa Assumpta in Baltimore. Sister Madeleine died Aug. 19. She was 94 and a vowed member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame for 68 years.

A funeral Mass for Daughter of Charity Sister Regina Russell was offered Aug. 24 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg.

Mercy Sister Mary Neil Corcoran touched the lives of thousands of immigrants through her work in Hispanic ministries and the Hispanic Apostolate in Baltimore.

Archbishop William E. Lori remembered Richmond Bishop Francis Xavier DiLorenzo as a “good moral theologian,” an “excellent seminary rector” and a bishop who “cheerfully did whatever the church asked of him.”
