The Baltimore-based Josephites celebrated their 125th anniversary with a special Mass Nov. 17 at the Baltimore Basilica.

In his homily for the Mass, Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda of St. Paul-Minneapolis, said that providence provided inspirational readings for the day on the appropriate patronal feast of St. Josephat, a 16th-century “brother bishop who gave his life for his sheep.”

“I am deeply saddened by yet another mass shooting in our country,” Archbishop Lori said in a Nov. 8 statement.

My heart is broken by news of the terrible attack on the synagogue in Pittsburgh. My prayers are with the families of all those who have lost loved ones and with the Jewish people who have suffered such an unspeakable violation of one of their houses of worship.

The president of the Catholic Medical Association said Oct. 18 that the American Academy of Family Physicians’ new “engaged neutrality” position on physician-assisted suicide is “diametrically opposed” to the medical community’s long-standing opposition to it.

Healing of the church can be brought about by all faithfully living their God-given vocations, Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore told Catholics in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston during a visit to the statewide diocese in early October.

“Our country is far from perfect, but to many it is a beacon of hope and freedom,” Archbishop Lori said.

Their championship pedigrees are among the reasons three players from Catholic institutions in Baltimore are on the roster of Team USA at the world championships in Israel.
