An ambitious lawman and a dog in danger become partners in the winsome fact-based drama “Rescued by Ruby.”

There are, in fact, two Adams in this time-travel themed tale. Adult Adam (Ryan Reynolds) hails from the year 2050. Arriving in the present, he teams with his 12-year-old self (Walker Scobell) to nip a future problem for humanity in the bud.

Viewers will find themselves thoroughly absorbed by “The Batman” (Warner Bros.). Director and co-writer Matt Reeves’ reboot of the DC Comics-based franchise is a darkly powerful affair, and its script — penned with Peter Craig — plays with the interesting question whether the iconic crimefighter of the title is, in fact, a hero.

Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin have co-directed a fictional riff on dogs in war, and the result is the quirky, good-natured — but not family-friendly — road movie “Dog” (MGM).

For most of its running time, the romantic comedy “Marry Me” (Universal) registers as an amiable, if unlikely, fantasy whose script, penned by John Rogers and Tami Sagher, shows some inclination toward traditional values.

One way to grab moviegoers’ attention is to threaten those on screen with doomsday. It’s a tactic director Roland Emmerich has resorted to repeatedly and to which he returns with “Moonfall,” a sullen science-fiction fantasy.
