Deacon Michael Dodge, who served for many years as a permanent deacon at The Community of St. Athanasius (Curtis Bay) and St. Rose of Lima (Brooklyn), was remembered by family and friends for his special way of sharing time with people. 

Father Thomas Gills, a former military chaplain who ministered to critically wounded servicemen and later served as pastor of St. Peter the Apostle in Oakland and St. Peter at the Lake in McHenry, died Sept. 6 at his home in Little Orleans. He was 71.

A funeral Mass will be held Sept. 4 for Sister of Mercy Ruth Handren. Sister Ruth, formerly known as Sister Mary Scholastica, had been a Sister of Mercy for 81 years. She died Aug. 27 at Mercy Springwell retirement home. She was 104.
