The Shrine of Ss. Peter and Paul is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year. For many in Western Maryland, the historic church is a hallowed place of prayer that serves as a physical link to Cumberland’s Catholic past.

More than 2,200 seniors graduated from 18 Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore this spring.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore hosted its “Call to Prayer” June 27 to close the listening phase and usher in the vision phase of its mission to reshape the Catholic Church in Baltimore City.

“It’s so rewarding that people let you into their lives at these key moments – the birth of a child, marriage, illness or death – and it’s the role of the priest to be thankful for that invitation and to walk with them in their journey as far as they want us to walk with them and to recognize we’re probably going to get more out of it than we give,” he said.

Father Rapisarda, who prefers to be called “Father Greg,” is retiring at 75, but he plans to be plenty present.
